This website is an effort to provide an overall perspective on what is the Gandhian vision of a good society and therefore what kind of education is required today to work towards that vision. The website curates resources and activities to build a Nayee, Nai Taleem (New, New Education)for a “Nayee duniya” ( A new world) to enable us to build radical solutions to our present understanding of the world.
The question is why? Why seek radical alternatives at all? Why get inspired by the very radical Gandhian vision that imagines institutions and envisages social-economic-political relationships in a very different way – asking for a lighter, nonviolent, peaceful and harmonious footprint on the planet that is shared well with dignity and respect amongst all that inhabit it.
One simple way to answer is that business as usual is leading us to all sorts of crisis — enveloped by a severe ecological crisis ( many amongst us are calling it a climate emergency) and we are staring at a future where everyone’s survival is in peril. Out of sheer panic we need to look and embrace radical alternatives.
Using a bit of humour to emphasise this serious concern:
And so, with a sense of urgency , through this online space. we would like to reach out to many more of you who are inspired to make a change in the communities you belong through education of a certain kind. We are not only talking of school level teachers. For we believe that enthusiastic facilitators who mobilise communities for change especially towards a Gandhian way of living and being are invariably and essentially educators who empower communities with new knowledge and the spirit of Swaraj.
Nai Taleem for today and tomorrow
