Trees

1. Creative Lesson Plan on Trees: Developed by Development Research Communication & Services Centre (DRCSC)for the  Ecology and Natural Resource Education project (ENRE), this booklet is the first in the series of creative lesson plans for teachers, educators and community workers. This booklet focuses on MPTs (Multi Purpose Trees), since they have several useful functions in agriculture, home gardens and for the environment in general. The activities are designed in a manner that children discover the value of trees as natural resources and thus conserve them in their own communities. The activities in this booklet are :

1.  ‘ Top 10 Most Common Trees ’ (Class 4-6): Finding out the most common trees in home-garden or surroundings and listing down the ten most popular ones.

2.  ‘ Visiting Your ‘Tree – Friend’ (Class 4-6): Making a tree-profile to acquaint oneself with a tree by observing and describing it.

3.  ‘Ranking of Trees According to Usage’ (Class 5-7): Learning about a tree’s value and role in one’s locality.

4.  ‘ Products Made of Wood in Our  Surroundings’ (Class 4-7): Learning about the kinds of trees used in making wooden items in one’s surroundings and the reasons for the same.

5.  ‘Let’s Make a Tree Seed Bank’ (Class 5-8):Collecting seeds of several kinds of trees that are useful in one’s locality and making a seed bank.

6.  ‘Let’s Start a School Tree Nursery’ (Class 5-9): Planting tree-seedlings in school gardens and community areas.

At the end of the booklet, there is an essay titled Trees and Our Environment by Ardhendu Chatterjee along with a comprehensive list of books, booklets and interesting lesson plans on trees.
