Fisheries

1.  Creative Lesson Plan on Fish: Developed by Development Research Communication & Services Centre (DRCSC)for the  Ecology and Natural Resource Education project (ENRE), this booklet is the tenth in the series of creative lesson plans for teachers, educators and community workers. This booklet focuses on the relationship between fish and their environment and also observation and survey of locally available fish to understand the role of fish in each ecosystem.The activities in this booklet can be summarized as follows:

1.  ‘About Fish Which Children Like Most to Eat’ (Class 5-7): Encouraging children to learn about the fish they eat.

2.  ‘My Experience with Fish’ (Class 5-7): Exploring interesting encounters with fish through children’s experiences.

3.  ‘Ask Fishermen!’ (Class 7-9):  Interviewing fishermen in the locality to help children investigate ‘pond ecosystem’ in relation with fish culture.

4.  ‘Making a Pond in a School Yard’:  Designing a small pond for keeping fish and also observing how it can contribute to increasing the natural diversity of one’s surroundings.

At the end of the booklet, there is an essay titled Fishes of Bengal by Silanjan Bhattacharya, a list of fish with the local name, common name and scientific name and a comprehensive list of books, booklets and interesting lesson plans on fish.
